Feedback from Recent Participants in my Study Tours.

Like any profound experience in life, words will fail in trying to convey the impact our trip to Israel had on us. It was eleven days packed to the gills with sights, sounds, history, scripture, information, heat, new friends, physical exertion, food, LOTS of water, fun, laughter, and contemplation.

We can’t praise enough the job that Rob did in leading the tour. The knowledge and passion he brought to the experience was extraordinary. His teachings were never didactic or authoritarian in its presentation, however. Discussion and disagreement were always welcomed and encouraged, and in instances where answers were uncertain or varied, Rob let the mystery be, which we liked. The care, planning and execution of the tour were excellent. Intentional effort was made to make every aspect an enriching experience.

This is not your typical passive bus tour. If you are not in reasonably good physical condition, you may find it challenging.
Go anyway.
Also, if you are set in your theology with a low tolerance for any deviation from your ideas, you may find it challenging.
Go anyway.
We enjoyed every minute of the trip.

Israel was life changing! I walked the Via Dolorosa (way of the cross), hiked up the Mount of Olives, prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, was baptized in the Jordan River, overlooked the Jezreel Valley, listened to a teaching on the Southern Steps, placed my prayer at the Wailing Wall, was tattooed in a 700 year old Christian shop, held a crown of thorns, waded through Hezekiah’s tunnels, danced over grapes in Katzrin, dipped in the Sea of Galilee, read 2000 year old Biblical excerpts in the Dead Sea Scrolls, sat in Herod’s guest house, climbed up Golgotha, exited the Lion’s Gate (where Stephen was led out to be stoned), worshipped in a church by the Pool of Bethesda, and recited the Shema each day.

The deep community I found here was something I had not felt in years, and words can’t describe the impact this experience had on us. In our “immersive study” tour, every site was tied back to the Scriptures about the location, and between our local Israeli tour guide, and our Hebrew Bible scholar, the Bible came to life in front of our eyes. A bigger tour group would not have provided this amazing experience.

Thank you, Rob Kranz, for your explanations of biblical translations gone awry, for challenging us to grow in the tension and for your life-altering teachings.

I left Israel with a much deeper understanding of God’s great love because of Rob’s lessons. Rob retold familiar stories at the location they occurred, adding new insights by translating from the Hebrew and explaining the cultural practices. Taking this tour blessed my life, changing my viewpoint of a harsh and vengeful God to a God with overwhelming and unending love.

Everything about the trip was organized and well run. The best part of the trip was Rob’s teachings. Rob has a gift for using the geography to bring the Bible alive. When I read the Bible now, I have a new understanding after seeing the places where the events occurred.

Rob’s trip transformed our understanding of the Bible.  The only way to access the cultural and geographical insights is to be on the ground in the Holy Land with a true scholar like Rob.

A family member once said,
“Even if it means that you have to eat beans and rice for the rest of your life (due to the cost), you need to go to Israel.”
Even that doesn’t do it justice. Get there!
